Pro Bono Practice

Our Pro Bono Practice

Our dedicated pro bono practice provides free legal services to indigent or disenfranchised members of society in order to facilitate access to justice.

In line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, our pro bono practice aims to advance social justice by using the law as a tool for the enforcement of rights making the law work for people.

Our firm’s relationships with legal aid and social justice organizations across Nigeria empower us to identify and aid individuals and organizations whom we can help with free legal services.

Our firm is committed to providing legal services without charge to those who cannot afford counsel, with the goals of improving clients’ lives, improving communities, and deepening our own professional experience.

In 2022, our firm devoted more than 2,000 hours to pro bono matters – some involving significant legal issues, sometimes life-altering, to the people and organizations represented. One of such important pro bono matter was a case between a prominent Nigerian music star and a client whose sex tape was unlawfully published without consent on social media space by the musician. The firm successfully tried this matter until a meaningful out-of-court settlement was reached between the parties. Regardless of the settlement, the court still proceeded to make a strong obiter dictum against the music star.

Our firm staff and support pro bono work with the same enthusiasm and resources that we devote to our billable work. OON OLABISI LP treats pro bono work equivalently with billable client work in performance reviews and for compensation purposes.

All our counsel from associates to the managing partner have opportunities to work on a broad variety of projects that appeal to their unique interests, time availability, and experience. Our pro bono work includes disability rights, civil rights, death penalty cases, discrimination cases, and human rights abuses.

We frequently partner with the Nigeria correctional service, nonprofit organizations, and public interest organizations on pro bono initiatives to maximize the impact of our work.
